In 2016, I worked with the Italian American Studies Association (IASA), a membership-based professional organization for Italian American studies scholars and researchers, on a project to transition their website from the Drupal CMS to SilkStart, a robust and cost-effective membership management CMS.
User Experience Considerations
IASA is an academic membership organization to which members pay dues. The website is the principle means of adding new members and processing membership renewals. The organization also runs a yearly conference, for which it collects event fees. We moved the website from the Drupal CMS to the SilkStart CMS and membership management software.
SilkStart allowed for better user experience for members, more efficient payment tracking by the organization’s administrators, and for automated systems, such as email reminders about soon-to-expire memberships. The new CMS also provided better event registration capabilities. The SilkStart system also syncs with MailChimp, enabling the email list to connect to the database.
In addition to enhanced user experience, the website also received a design makeover. The new design was kept simple and clean, using a color scheme of the logo green color, white, and black. I also updated email templates in MailChimp to match the new website design aesthetic.
